Policy updates
- The European Commission updated their FAQ on organic rules and published a legislative proposal on “New Genomic Techniques”. Check-out our YouTube video to learn more about new GMOs are.
- The European Parliament agreed on incentivising carbon farming through the ”monetisation” of carbon certificates. IFOAM Organics Europe will continue to advocate for a holistic approach to carbon farming which delivers also benefits for biodiversity protection and ecosystem restoration and does not penalise first movers.
- TP Organics, the European Technology Platform for Research & Innovation into Organics and Agroecology, officially presented its new policy brief on food security, organic and agroecological farming.
Celebrating EU organic
On 23 September we celebrated EU Organic Day, and many of our members organised initiatives to spotlight organic nationally and locally – learn about them and get inspiration for next year on our interactive map.
The annual European Organic Awards ceremony, rewarding European actors who greatly contribute to enhancing, developing, and stimulating the organic value chain, took place on 25 September 2023 at the European Commission. 8 winners in 7 categories were awarded. Learn about them!
Our European Organic Congress 2023 took place on 26-28 September in Córdoba, Spain. During this three-day event, the organic movement and policymakers discussed hot topics like the importance of ensuring generational renewal, organic market trends in Europe and beyond, promoting organic consumption through private and public procurement, and many more. Ongoing/upcoming events
During its annual European Days of Action (1-31 October), GoodFoodGoodFarming calls on everyone to organize an event in your city, town or village. If you have the capacity to organise an event or if an event planned already is fitting this description you can register it on Good Food Good Farming’s website.
NATEXPO (22-24 October) is the leading international trade show for organic products, taking place in Paris, France. IFOAM Organics Europe is glad to partner with NATEXPO and represent the European perspective at the fair for another year. Get your free visitor pass and plan your journey to Paris!
